Decent tool, some quirks

I signed up for the Fing Starter plan to try it out. The Network Scanner was pretty good at finding everything on my network. The Internet Speed Test was handy. My main issue was that the mobile app sometimes felt a bit slow to sync with the desktop version, which was a minor annoyance. Overall, it's a solid tool for the price, but there's room for a smoother app experience.

Good for network scans

I purchased Fing Premium last month. The device discovery worked well and the Wi-Fi Security Scan was useful. Setup was quick. Met my needs for home network monitoring.

Comprehensive network insights

I decided to upgrade from the free version to Fing Premium after seeing some suspicious activity on my network. The ordering process was straightforward on their website, and I received my confirmation email instantly. The Device Recognition is impressive; it correctly identified almost every device, even some obscure smart home gadgets. I really appreciate the Automated Speed Tests, which help me track my ISP's performance over time. The Router Security Check gave me some actionable tips to improve my setup. Customer support answered a question about the Port Scanning feature within a few hours. It's a very robust tool for anyone serious about home network security.

Easy to use, works fine

Got Fing Premium a few weeks ago after seeing it mentioned somewhere. Wanted to see what was connected to my Wi-Fi. It found everything quickly. The app was pretty easy to figure out, didn't have to spend ages trying to learn it. My Wi-Fi security score went up after I followed some of its suggestions. Pretty happy with it, does what it says.

Reliable network monitoring

This is my third year with Fing Premium, and they've been consistently good. I initially got it for the Vulnerability Assessment and the Hidden Camera Detection, and those features have always worked as expected. My recent renewal was easy, just like previous years. It's my go-to for keeping an eye on my home network's health.

Hey, I'm thinking about getting Fing Premium but wondering about payment options. Do they take PayPal or is it just credit cards?

W William Robinson 1 week ago
Yeah, pretty sure they take PayPal. I used it for my annual sub last year, super easy.

I think I paid with a credit card, but I vaguely remember seeing PayPal as an option too when I signed up for the trial a few months back. Most places offer both these days.

Is it worth upgrading to Premium from the free version? Like, what's the actual difference? Just more scans or something important?

J Justin M. 2 weeks ago
Premium gets you way more. The vulnerability assessment and digital presence monitoring are huge. Plus, no more limits on historical data, which is nice.

Totally worth it for the automated speed tests and network downtime alerts. I used to check manually, now it just tells me when my internet is being weird. Also, the hidden camera detection is kinda neat if you travel.

How does Fing compare to something like Wireshark for home network stuff? Is it easier to use or less detailed?

M Mary Allen 2 weeks ago
Fing is way easier for general home network monitoring. Wireshark is super powerful for deep packet analysis but has a much steeper learning curve. Fing gives you the important stuff without making you feel like a pro hacker.

Totally different tools. Wireshark is for hardcore network engineers. Fing is more about 'who's on my network,' 'is my router secure,' 'is someone trying to hack in,' without needing a degree in networking. So, easier but less raw data.

i'm kinda worried about my data privacy. does fing sell my network info or anything like that?

M Michelle Brown 1 month ago
Nah, they state pretty clearly they don't sell your network data. That's one of the reasons I picked them over some others.

I looked into this too before signing up. Their whole thing is network security, so it wouldn't make sense for them to sell user data. They're pretty transparent about it.

Heard about some Black Friday deals for Fing last year. Should I wait for that or do they have good sales throughout the year?

R Ryan Roberts 5 days ago
Black Friday and Cyber Monday are usually their biggest sales. You can often snag 20-30% off annual plans then.

They do have smaller sales sometimes, especially around back to school or data privacy day. But if you can hold out, BF/CM is probably your best bet for the biggest discount on an annual plan, afaik.
